Some web pages that use embedded Adobe Flash (like Auctiva scrolling items) do not run properly even though Flash is installed. Flash works properly on other pages.
Even after re-installing Flash these pages do not detect Flash installed. While Adobe has numerous troubleshooting techniques for this many people have reported no success in repairing the problem.
We have encountered a scenario where we were able to repair the problem by registering vbscript.dll. (See more... below for other possible solutions.)
To register vbscript.dll:
- Click Start | Run
- Type CMD
- Click OK, a black command box will open
- Type regsvr32.exe vbscript.dll
- A dialog box should appear indicating that the dll registered successfully.
This solution was discovered while attempting to repair a bad installation of Apple QuickTime. The following error was encountered whenever attempting to uninstall or install QuickTime:
"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2738."
Further research indicated that this QuickTime error could be resolved by registering vbscript.dll (or downloading if it did not exist). This proved to be the solution. After registering vbscript.dll and re-installing QuickTime, both QuickTime and embedded Flash 6 worked properly.
If simply registering vbscript.dll does not resolve the problem try installing the latest version of QuickTime to reproduce our findings.
