Windows Desktop Search (WDS) may be installed on your computer. It is an optional component of Windows Updates/Microsoft Updates.

Windows Desktop Search may impact your computer's performance (as will any desktop search engine) and increase disk activity.

If you want to remove use Add/Remove Programs and remove Window Desktop Search <x.xx> where x.xx is the version number. (see note below for possible residual problems.)

Please note:

The Quick Launch bar may disappear on a multi-user system

If a user uninstalls Windows Desktop Search on a multi-user system, the Quick Launch bar on the Windows taskbar may be hidden in other users’ profiles.

To restore the Quick Launch bar, right-click the taskbar, point to Toolbars, and then click Quick Launch.

Here more information from Microsoft if you have difficulty removing it: Windows Desktop Search (WDS) Troubleshooting Guide
